Purpose:
CHG0046926 - The current Layer 2 (L2) solution that CENIC provides is a statically configured hop-by-hop logical cross-connect that is unable to reroute across the resilient CalREN Backbone. CENIC has developed, tested, deployed and migrated connections to the new resilient and scalable MPLS L2-VPN. MPLS L2-VPNs leverage the benefits of MPLS and are able to reroute L2-VPNs across any available paths on CalREN to provides extensive resiliency and quick service restorations during failures.

Impact:
Risk is moderate due to network path reconfiguration on the circuits providing service for AWS Direct Connect to San Jose and Los Angeles, and layer 2 service for UC Agriculture and Natural Resources (UCANR) in Davis. AWS Direct Connect traffic will be routed via alternate paths when the circuit migration is performed.

AWS Direct Connect clients may experience a brief period of slow network response when switching between normal and alternate paths. UCANR HQ Davis will experience a loss of layer 2 connectivity to the Davis Campus Data Center when the circuit migration is performed.

Affected:
AWS Direct Connect via San Jose (UC Davis - DC-L2-UCDV1-SNVL2-10G-6695) AWS Direct Connect via Los Angeles (UC Davis - DC-L2-UCD-LOSA2-10G-17624) UCANR Davis HQ to UCD (UCANR Davis HQ - DC-L2-UCANRDAVISHQ-UCDV1-500M-7948)
