Purpose:
Install new 1,600 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) which is a critical component for backup power capabilities for the NOC Telecommunications building. The ATS facilitates seamless transition from normal power to generator backup power.

Impact:
There should be no client impact. During the 3 critical phases to this project, backup power sources will be engaged in order to provide continuous operation and function for the campus network core and critical infrastructure systems. However, anytime power systems are under maintenance, and especially when the power backup switching gear are being replaced it is important to be aware that critical infrastructure systems are a risk of going down. That being said, Facilities and NOC staff have been preparing for these changes for a year, and will have all hands on deck in order for a seamless upgrade. The large transition window is required for us to remove the existing transfer switch and install the new one on a modified concrete slab at the South side of the building.
